Welcome to Year 5/6 – Sycamore Class
In Sycamore Class, children are encouraged to develop a positive attitude towards learning through curiosity, creativity and resilience. They enjoy exploring new ideas, working collaboratively and celebrating their achievements. Over the course of the year, they will grow in independence and confidence, building the knowledge and skills they need to become enthusiastic, capable learners ready for the next stage of their journey.

Our day
Mornings generally consist of English and Maths lessons broken into different focus areas e.g. spelling; grammar and punctuation; reading comprehension; writing for English. For maths, there will be an arithmetic focus session as well as a longer maths lesson following the White Rose overview.
Morning Break: 10:15 – 10:30
Lunchtime: 12:15 – 13:15
Afternoon sessions comprise of one or two foundation subjects such as art, music, French, RE, geography, history, PE, PSHE, DT or science.
Homework & Reading Information
Homework is sent home every Monday and should be returned by the following Monday. Each child will receive a homework folder containing tasks in English key skills, Maths key skills, and spellings. Spelling tests take place each Monday, so regular practice is encouraged. From time to time, children may also be given small, creative projects linked to one of the foundation subjects. These are designed to be enjoyable and engaging.
Homework can be completed and returned early if preferred.
In addition to their homework, children are expected to read at home a minimum of four times per week. Please ensure each reading session is recorded in your child’s reading log, which is collected every Friday.
