WELCOME TO HAZEL CLASS
CLASS TEACHER – Miss. Chapman
CLASS TEACHER – Miss. Chapman
We are a mixed year 3 and 4 class, taught by Miss Chapman.
We enjoy learning in all areas of the curriculum and a typical week in Hazel class will consist of daily maths and English lessons including reading and spellings. We have weekly RE, PE and PSHE lessons and the rest of our time is spent on topic work. During topic work we will focus on science, history, geography, art, DT and computing.
In Hazel class we are proud to be a supportive and enthusiastic team. We encourage one another to be the best we can be, celebrating effort, kindness, and curiosity. In Year 3/4, the children will dive into exciting topics through hands-on activities, write imaginative stories, explore the world beyond the classroom on trips, and even begin learning French.
Our day
Mornings generally consist of English and Maths lessons, broken into different focus areas. In English, children will explore spelling, grammar and punctuation, reading comprehension, and writing. For Maths, there will be a daily arithmetic focus session, followed by a longer lesson aligned with the NCETM overview. Maths lessons are taught in separate year groups to ensure targeted learning. After lunch, children will enjoy one or two foundation subjects, which may include Art, Music, French, RE, Geography, History, PE, PSHE, DT, or Science.
Our PE days will be Tuesday and Wednesday.
Morning Break: 10:30 – 10:45
Lunchtime: 12:15 – 13:15
Set: Fridays
Due: Following Thursday
Homework will include one piece of Maths work each week, directly linked to what we’re learning in class. Year 4 children will also receive multiplication practice to help them prepare for the Multiplication Check in June. In addition, children will complete a grammar or reading task, again connected to our current learning. Homework will be sent home in a personal folder, which should be returned and refilled weekly. We recommend completing homework early in the week, so children have time to ask for help or request replacements if needed.
Reading: Reading is vital in not only developing and expanding children’s vocabulary but also in developing their imagination and own storytelling skills. Please try to read with your child at least four times a week.
